Vision
The Department of Islamic Law provides a range of local, national and global themes for study from a critical legal perspective. Students have the opportunity to link previous or current experiences to academic inquiry. The programme aims to stimulate excellent study, research, and writing skills based on a stronger foundation and better understanding of the role of Islamic Law in a contemporary context. It is also aimed at promoting a better understanding of Islamic law-related framework in different areas of Islamic Law.
Mission
- Train a workforce, i.e. scholars and experts of Islamic Law that can meet the country’s needs in its tripartite legal (Customary, Common and Islamic Law) system in its tertiary institutions.
- Contribute to the advancement of knowledge through creative Islamic legal thinking towards effecting socio-economic legal policies and development of Nigeria in particular and humankind in general.
- Critically engage with the major theoretical debates on the role of Islamic Law in any given field.
- Display the ability to deal with different types of legal systems and laws through Islamic Law.
- Apply critical and contextual approaches across a wide variety of subject matter.
